Implementing an accountability framework
In the rush of organisational life, it’s important to provide clear parameters for people and teams to operate in.
For any initiative, scheme or new program of work that you are rolling out internally, it’s valuable to establish upfront what the governance will be, in terms of an accountability framework. Used for organisational responses to Audits, Government edicts, regulatory changes, organisational survey results, or supporting other organisation-wide changes.
Who’s it for
Whole organisation, or any part affected by a significant new initiative or program
How it works
Initiated by the Executive, Senior Leader or HR when a new initiative is to be implemented
Purpose-built to align with the direction and intent of the initiative, taking into account resource availability, existing practices and preferred engagement approaches
One-on-ones and/or leadership team sessions and/or workshops utilised to engage leaders and key stakeholders in mapping out the initiative’s Accountability Action Framework
The Accountability Action Framework is embedded in regular work, and the initiative rollout/implementation tracked and reported on against it
Can be augmented by skill-based training through one-on-one coaching or group sessions spanning topics like managing by results, RACI matrix allocations, effective decision making, and balancing delegation, autonomy and skill development
Accountability is reinforced by coaching/follow up
Performance against the Accountability Action Framework is evaluated to identify opportunities for improvement and drive ongoing learning
Typically takes 2-6 months, depending on the extent of the initiative
What it achieves
Increased ownership and accountability for results
Process of creating the Accountability Action Framework provides a degree of rigour, certainty and direction
Crystalises how good intentions need to be tangibly delivered
Delivers an agreed process for how decisions will be made, which roles must do what when, as well as timelines and checkpoints.
Holds people accountable, and teaches people how to hold others accountable
